scrutiny

The news, specifically CNN, has been experiencing harsher amounts of scrutiny, the latest being cover to the news station's website. The cover had a photograph pf a unique fish with a deign on its belly. The author seems to believe that CNN has crept away from what its purpose is. CNN has a history of coverage on the world, wars, economy, etc. The important things. The media has been accused of using too many stories which have no substance. The author questions why there are stories, cleary based on two unimportant facts, and hardly any on fixing social security and fighting overseas.

I can definitely see what the whole meaning of this article is. I agree that the news has been, too often, airing stories with no relevance or information, besides a shock factor. I saw the cover of a local newspaper that had a cover page feature story on how a Florida woman burned her dog house down. On the second page, there was an article on American deaths overseas, as well as, a must-know story on spinach and it' temporary danger. See where I'm going. The coverage of the infamous, Anna Nicole Smith, has been taking over so much time on the new, that there is barely any other stories with as much coverage. It sad. The news is for the real stuff. Let a marriage battle and a burnt doghouse stay in the tabloids!!!

Hispanic Magazine Circulation

LINK HERE

This article about hispanic magaizine circulation has a great twist that I havent's been finding in many other articles. The twist I speak of is the focus on a certain ethinicity of a magazine. Most magazines are sent after a certain demographic, but by far, in the ethniciy field you see the most african american demand. That is with ebony, black female, vibe, and source: all popular magazines aimed towrds an african american demographic. In this article it is the Hispanic ethnicity within magaizine circulation that is facing a problem. When the Hispanic magazines first began they thrived on the coverage of pop music star, Selena's, very tragic death, here in America. Since then, few dramatic events have occured, that focus on hispanic topics, to ensure a steady flow and demand of hispanic reader's. The article touches on the ideas that if something isn't done to gain some revenue quickly, alot of these magazines will have to close. I believe this is important because hispanics should want to keep a magazine geared towrds them in circulation, to promote an overall equal feeling for thier race, within the mass media.

A few things will be done to try and promote these magazines and help them sirculate more evenly by spreading them out through out cities. Special promotions with clubs in NYC and other big cities, along with free first issues, is an idea that might grab the hispanic attention that these editors are looking for. Many magazines geared towards other ethnicity's do well becysue they focus in on the proper ideas that the demographic demands. Maybe these magazines aren't covering the proper evenst and specials, and should take a look at reshaping their magazines, before they gove out free issues and try all these new promotions. I don't think that these magazines have enough security and trust by their readers, andI beleieve they need to stabalize this first before doing anythjing else.
